Hohhot is the capital of Inner Mongolia. The urban area has a population of about two million. Hohhot is home to the excellent Inner Mongolia Museum.

While Great Walls are dispersed throughout Inner Mongolia, involving great travel distances, there are several Great Walls near the city. The Qin Dynasty wall begins only about three kilometers (about two miles) north of the city near the village of Po Gendi, leading to the north and then to the west. Sections of the Zhao Guo Great Wall can be found to the east of the city, beginning near Beishuiquan, about 18 kilometers (11 miles) northeast of the Hohhot airport. And starting about 70 kilometers (43 miles) northwest of the city is the extremely long Jin State Great Wall.

Location summary: Hohhot is about 415 kilometers (258 miles) west of downtown Beijing.

Driving directions: From Deshengmen City Gate near the Jishuitan subway station on the north side of Beijing, drive north and northwest on the G110 / G6 expressway for about 450 kilometers (280 miles) to Hohhot.
