I don't recall ever seeing a tower with such a big, wide-open center room.

Thanks, that adds to my suspicion that this is a special Liaoning design.

Me neither has seen this kind before. I have seen some stone/brick watchtowers in Shanxi (yes, in the well known places we all had gone too), but non was of this design.

I am thinking of such a thing for such a while. I plan to bring to my next visits to the (Ming) GW a measuring tape along. We should make as much scetches of the design and take as many as possible phtotgraphs.

I actually did bring a measuring tape with me on the trip to Zhuizishan, but lost it while fighting my way through some thick bushes

I'll buy a new one and begin to make some sketches.

In order to preserve as much as possible and to document before some local politician might have decided "his" wall should be restored with huge amounts of concrete I think it is our duty to get all saved we can. I even think about bringing things with me to do rubbings from stone tabletts and inscriptions. Maybe we can do such work together in east Hebei in 2010.

I have been thinking the same. The problem is that some of the stone tablets are placed so high that they are difficult to reach.

Of cause if you or Bryan volunteer I can stand on your shoulders

Do you thik you could get such things in China in a transportabel (in the sense of carrying it in a rucksack) way? We will share the weight but it will be difficult to get these things bought here or even in the short time I have in China with shops in reach.

I opt for the shoulder-standing job since I (when I succeed to lose about 15kg) am the lightest of us all ...
