I think I'm going to have to agree with Chinoook here, especially after comparing with the wall near Yumenguan. After all, Chinoook is our resident expert on the western areas of the Great Wall. But it would be great to go there and have a look and take some photos. If it's really many tightly spaced layers of defense then it's a truly unique and fascinating feature of the Great Wall.
Sorry guys but I'm not convinced - I like to see straight lines in the desert, and I don't see any here. Maybe it's man made but there's a lot of wall out there and not all of them is Great Wall.
I guess we just need to wait for an eyewitness report from Chinoook.

39°15'28.82"N 99°29'46.51"E: I don't think so.

39°15'30.43"N 99°29'55.35"E: difficult to say, could be man made, could be natural.

And even notice the structure it aligns it ...
What structure to be precise?

It is a wall rectangular to the water running down the valley. It can not be natural, it would have been washed away.

Definitely a beacon tower. Note the shadow of it. If you don't agree have a look at the following photos: [photo1.kmz] [photo2.kmz] (I hope you can see this panoramio locations. How is the best way to exchange them?)

If you still not agree, please have a short look at the outlet of the next, eastern valley: Again a beacon tower ( 39°14'49.79"N 99°32'9.18"E), built because of the same reasons. And I might to estimate this is also a beacon tower remnant ( 39°14'54.97"N 99°31'50.45"E), thus a pair of beacon towers guarding the valley. The second also has a wall remnant running to.
Once I will go there, no doubt.

Probably a wall remnant.

I agree, those look like towers.

Since you accept there has been made some effort to build a barrier to the south, do you agree a wall (the quadruple one) could fit into the same defense system?

It's late now here in China so I go to bed, maybe a good nights sleep will help me see it more clearly
