I guess I won't be taking all my photos at the full 10 megapixel resolution.
3 hours at the wall yesterday and 553 photos

Guess I need a huge bag next year just for memory cards.

By this time next year I bet you can get 32 GB SDHC cards for about $20. You can buy them by the case and get a better price.

Will you mark wathtowers and other items by GPS waypoints? I hope you will add as much as possible new knowledge to our project.
Are their any interesting questions to be answered in that region?
In case you find inscriptions on the wall ask maotouying to translate them. She is familiar with classical Chinese.

I'm going to mark towers, beacon towers, entrances and exits, places where the wall is not passable without climbing gear and detours around these places, and other features that I encounter. I really don't think I will be adding significantly to our map but I will do what I can.

My main questions are where the wall starts and ends exactly. It's hard to tell from Google Earth because there is so much tree cover. The Northern Qi Great Wall, Wohushan, the Moyashike loop, the Erdaoguan area, and the various spurs in Huairou are good examples.

Here is an inscription from the Gubeikou Panlongshan area that I have never been able to translate, but it's not a very good photo:

Good luck and all the best.
Will you look at the forum from time to time? How long will you stay in China? Where will you go?

About 2 days in Shanghai, 1 week in Xiantao, 5 weeks at the Great Wall in Huairou and Miyun, 1 week in Suzhou and Hangzhou. I'm sure I will find Internet access from time to time.

Fine. If (if ...) I manage to go to China within the next two month - maybe we can meet then.
