Greetings all!
Does anyone know of (in detail) the various options available for making the voyage from Beijing city to Jiayuguan? e.g. Bus, train, plane, et cetera. I'm pretty much looking for the least expensive means (without losing some comforts), though I would prefer to travel by train, if it is possible. ![]() post scriptum, Forgive me if this post is in the wrong Forum - I didn't have my trekking pole unpacked. Hi Jamie,
I went from Beijing to Jiayuguan last September via train. I don't know much about the other alternatives, but I can tell you that the train was slow and made a lot of stops and took about 33 hours total. It left from the downtown Beijing rail station. Although the train was slow, the scenery was very interesting to me and the train went through many interesting places, and so it was not at all boring. I had a hard sleeper. The ticket was about ¥600.

Hi Bryan,
Thank you kindly. That is exactly the information I was in search of. Actually, I have one other pertinent question: Did you have to purchase your ticket in advance? And, if so, how long prior to the train's departure time should a ticket be purchased? Last edited by Jamie; 02-03-2009 at 06:25 PM. Reason: A thought flew in the window. |

Thank you again, that is good information to be in possession of - which raises another question: Do you (or anyone else reading this post) know what the avergae cost of travel is from Shanhaiguan to Beijing (city) via the train?

Not everybody have the time or interest to visit all sections of the Great Wall, but all deserves a decent answer!
I normally travel by car so I don't know the ticket price, but I would guess less than 100 RMB (15 USD). |

Kim, thank you. What (someone) may not understand is that I am putting together an expense report for those who have an interest in sponsoring the expedition.
I didn't want to approximate a figure. Travel expenses are obviously much different than they are in comparison to European or American travel. Kind regards, Jamie |

Chinoook,
I hate to point out the obvious to you, but I find your disrespectful attitude bothersome. Here’s a question for you: Is it not accurate to say that asking someone at a checkout counter of a rail station and asking someone here, or anywhere for that fact, obtaining information by myself? With regards to discovering the information from a web-site that serves as a source of information on a non-personal level, I will tell you this: I prefer to have the interaction with people (they may even share a story of their own). Again, this is all besides the point that I am putting together an expense report for those who have an interest in sponsoring my expedition. So, please, refrain from being a disrespectful idiot. Being of the Senior Member status I would expect much more understanding and knowledge with regards to the preparation of an expedition. Jamie post scriptum, My experience (up until your disrespectful attitude) with the Great Wall Forum was pleasurable. Last edited by Jamie; 02-08-2009 at 06:38 PM. |

Hi, Jamie, I once had the same experience on other websites. I felt angry too. So the world is like this. Sometimes, people are in bad mood , so they are not friendly. But I still think the nature of human beings is kindly. Just some of them can control their temper well, but some not. I often tell myself that I can expect everyone to treat me well, otherwise I would be often angry and unhappy. I don't want to be affected much by others.
I agree with you on "I prefer to have the interaction with people (they may even share a story of their own)." Because I still can get much accurate information from them online. Support you! |
