Hike Mark Scholinz's path

It seems Mark Scholinz has updated the Google Earth kmz file of his Great Wall trek. Previously it included a path through 27 September 2007, and after that it contained only waypoints. Now it contains the complete path all the way to Shanhaiguan. I don't know when he made this update, but I have just noticed it. You can download it from www.greatwalltrek.info/map.

The most interesting thing in my opinion, is that once he reached the Beijing area, he did not follow the Great Wall very closely. I have always believed that this is likely the case for other through-hikers and that this explains why most of them aren't willing to release GPS tracks. Kudos to Mark for releasing his!

Thanks for sharing, Bryan. To release his track makes his walk believable. For many other "through-hikers" I even doubt the did the whole walk.

Mark also shows how often he was close to the wall and did not find it. If he knew the forum earlier we could have helped him ...

His path in Eastern Hebei is a bit strange and he misses some of the most interesting sections of the wall in this area (Baiyangyu (western part), Lengkou, Heliukou, Taolinkou, Naziyu-Banchangyu, Damaoshan, Zhuizishan and not to forget Sandaoguan). Some of them are not even very difficult and should be easy to find

It is so motivating to see this post, my kudos to all those who attempt this journey. Thru hiking just seems so difficult, I admire those who have done it.
