Default Shanhaiguan photos

I went to Qinhuangdao today so I couldn't resist to continue to Shanhaiguan. Actually I wanted to do some planning for my next trip to the area, but unfortunately the road was closed for repair so Plan B was to find a quiet spot in Shanhaiguan and take a few pictures before going back home. I went to see the place where the Great Wall meets the city wall of Shanhaiguan here: 40° 0'47.98"N 119°44'58.45"E

The Great Wall meets the city wall.

Few remains of the parapet on the top of the wall.

From here the wall continues north towards Jiaoshan.

Nice field survey , here is my study from your photos.
1.the bricks use for Shanhaiguan fort and GW are different.
2.Wall of GW had huge stone as its base , and Shanhaiguan fort hadn't.

Actually the city wall is in the left side of the picture, so no stone slabs is visible at the base of the Great Wall. They should be there - just covered by all the green stuff.

I don't think there is much difference between the bricks used.

Kim, did you see or hear anything about the status of Great Wall restoration in or around Shanhaiguan?

I have not seen indication of continuing restoration between Jiaoshan and the Shanhaiguan city wall. I did see some sign that old bricks had been replaced by new ones to preserve the wall without actually restoring it completely but I don't know when this was done.

I have not been to the southern part of the city wall for some time, so I'm not sure what is going one there. I guess that in time they want to restore all of the main city wall, or at least repair the damage parts to prevent the wall from further deterioration.

I plan to spend a day around Shanhaiguan later this year and will of cause report the findings here at the forum

After visiting the GW Museum we had a quick look around Shanhaiguan. This was an extremely hot day and the high humidity didn't make it much more enjoyable.

The south gate (40° 0'6.66"N 119°45'15.61"E):

One of the so called ancient commercial street. Most of the shops close to the south gate is empty and it is rather sad to see how a lot of old houses have been removed to make way to this.

The Great Wall of China

It is much more interesting to walk around the old non-tourist area and look trough the gates into the old courtyard houses.

Notice the measuring device attached to the wall to monitor the cracks. I'm not sure if these are still in use.

The wall around here (39°59'28.96"N 119°47'15.20"E). It would probably damage the wall to try to walk on this section.
