Default Few carved Italian characters on the fortress's wall

The fortress named Jingyuancheng(靖远城) locates at 1 km north of Laolongtou in Shanhaiguan.
The fortress was used as Italian camp during Eight-Power Allied Forces war of aggression against China in 1902. its northern gate locates at 3958'33.09"N 11947'23.45"E was still well preserved , few characters in Italian can be seen on the bricks inside gate wall .

The fortress isn't opened for public .

It might become a hot spot if touring bureau of Shanhaiguan open this fortress for foreign vistors.

I agree. I was a bit disappointed when you mentioned it was closed. I look forward to seeing it anyway, even if only from the outside.

This reminds me of the fortress at Shentangyu, which I was also sorry to find closed and was only able to see from the outside.

The fortress was used a resort for retired railworkers , i don't think there are guards standing outside gate now . it might be ok for just seeing italian's grafitti on the gate's wall .

The meaning of the italian characters beneath the 靖远 is "Italian Fortress".

One more story about Italian during Eight-Power Allied Forces war :

Britians refused Italians closing the private and wide beach their owned to swimming , Italian dug a hole on GW and coving iron inside hole , the well-known hole named Tiemenguan(English: iron gate Chinese:铁门关) by local people is still existing now .
Picture below is map of story, red line in picture is path of GW and white line is wall of fortress no army occupied at that time.No picture of Tiemenguan was found yet.
