The Great Wall Forum is proud to announce version 5 of our comprehensive map of the Great Wall of China. This map is provided as a kmz file for use with Google Earth and packaged as an msi file for use with Microsoft Windows. You must have Google Earth installed on a Microsoft Windows computer to install and view it. You can download and install Google Earth free.
The map is free, but you must comply with the license agreement to use it. Basically, the agreement contains these rules:
Only forum members can download the map. Guests must register before downloading the attached map. Please note that this map does not represent all of the data we have generated so far. Certain locations and categories have been omitted for various reasons. Please let us know if you are interested in the complete map. Please note also that this map is large and contains much detail. Therefore, it may take a long time for it to load in Google Earth. Please be patient and allow time for it to load. The Great Wall of China map is a work in progress. This release is dated 2010/01/01 (1 January 2010). Please check back regularly for updates as we continually improve the map. We also have a detailed map of the Beijing area Great Wall which includes driving routes, hiking trails, and more.

It's hard for me to tell about the "more_wall" file. I hope some other members will give their opinions on these files too. Thank you very much for your submission!

Hi Luggi,
welcome to the forum. Some of your findings are quite suprising to me. Far off any known wall you find obvious items. Thanks for contributing them. Some of them will find their way in our map. Some of your "Todo" findings are very interesting too. I am absoultely puzzled by your "more" finding. The structure seems to be old. It is a bit too linear to me to be Great Wall and I do not understand the strategical location. I do not have any idea what this really is. I do not think it is Ming GW, maybe it is something else or even nothing. Difficult to clearify from here. How did you find all these places? Do you have a special approach to the GW of China? -chinoook Quote:

To comment on your findings. missing%20parts.kmz: One very clear finding in Ningxia, but I very much doubt the finding in Hebei. I don't see any sign of a wall at the Hebei pin other than natural rock. With a hight of 2700 meter this area would most likely be considered a natural barrier. Great%20Wall.kmz: Nice work but some of the parts don't have any Great wall, for example here: 40°26'27.83"N 118°15'3.09"E / 40°26'34.90"N 118°15'38.90"E more_wall.kmz: Looks very interesting, but I don't think it's old - the whole look of it does not seem like an old wall in my opinion. Todo: Most of them look doubtful in my opinion. |

![]() Topic "more_wall": I'm quite sure (NOT 100%!) that this is the wall. If you follow this line into southern you will see that some areas looks like ruins. It is to broken for being a road or something else. And the course could be right. EDIT: You can fly to this placemark: 38°54'45.86"N 105°48'50.54"E (the best proof for beeing a ruin, because the line is hiding into the fields) Last edited by Luggi; 01-09-2010 at 09:50 AM. |

As I wrote before: This section of (Ming) GW is running on the east flank of the Helanshan mountains. You find it here: 38°19'53.78"N 105°50'7.32"E.
It is the continuation of the section you found further in the south. -chinoook
