hello to everyone
i'll be in beijing in a week and i'm planning to visit great wall at jinshanling-shimatai is it too tuff for a first time visit? i mean snow-wind-ice, possibility of hiking, etc thanks Last edited by mvasilenko; 01-11-2010 at 09:05 AM. |

Hello and welcome to the forum.
That's a very personal question. For many people, it would be very easy. For others, there would be no way. Most people are somewhere in between. So this depends on your own experience and ability. What other kinds of hiking have you done? Anyway, if you're going soon, it will probably be very cold, and if you dress accordingly, your chances for success (and enjoyment) will be improved a lot. I would also consider a hiking pole or two to help keep you from slipping on the snow and ice.

bring many extra camera batteries, good socks, and if your very lucky, you might find a need for a flashlight. i went to el morro in puerto rico years back, snuck into the stairwell to the cistern, but it was so dark i couldn't go more than a few yards. would have killed for a flashlight.
