Here is the reason why :
First ,with your on-site survey ,and view from GE image ,the coordinates of two well preserved corners are for sure , they locates at 40°13'8.27"N 117°40'21.13"E and 40°13'10.30"N 117°40'31.35"E respectively ,according my guess before , both of them are suppose to be southeast corner for two camps . After measurement with GE ,the distance between two corners is 250meters,it just same as your book said !

Second , i guessed the west wall of eastern camp locates at 40.219555°N 117.673655°E , the distance between east wall of western camp and west wall of eastern camp is about 100 meters , it is also same as your book said !
Well, that would probably not be the first nor the last time a book is wrong about something

There is absolutely no sign of a wall in this area: 40.219555°N 117.673655°E. I parked my car very close to there and passed by foot also.

This corner (40°13'10.30"N 117°40'31.35"E) show a wall going northwest and northeast, so this would be the southwest corner.

This is the corner in question:

The Great Wall of China

The wall in the right part of the picture is heading northeast, which support my suggestion. Furthermore there is a wall somewhere in this area (40°13'13.00"N 117°40'37.10"E) which align with the corner.

Here is a quote from http://en.hebeitour.com.cn/heritage/...n=zjym&id=296:

Quote:
The east town has a stone wall on its west side.
The stone wall is here: 40°13'14.19"N 117°40'28.87"E, so this wall must be the western wall and not the eastern wall.

Looking closely at Google Earth you can actually see the wall.

The corner (probably a tower) is here: 40°13'10.28"N 117°40'31.64"E

The connected wall is here: 40°13'10.45"N 117°40'31.89"E

Maybe this discrepancy should be documented in this thread:

You would probably have ask them to manipulate the images, or go to the village and ask them to move the wall

After my exams I am gonna plan a trip to visit the Eastern Qing tombs in near this part of wall and was thinking of checking this part of wall out whilst there. Do you guys think it would be worth extending my stay in the area to explore more or not?

I would recommend to visit the wall in other areas. This is not the most interesting place to visit the wall in Hebei since the wall is very damaged and a lot to the towers have been destroyed. According to some book the wall north of Qingdongling was more or less destroyed by the Ming guys so it would not interfere with the tombs - probably some Feng Shui thing.
