That's a very nice set of "then and now" photos — but a very sad result.

I am reviewing a book "THE GREAT WALL" by John Man.

It's written....

The result of all this labour was many articles in the
People’s Picture Magazine, publicizing different sections, then
a book on the Wall, backed by Xinhua, translated into
English and published in Hong Kong – but not in China
proper, because Cheng lacked the right academic credentials.
Cheng’s Great Wall of China, published in 1984, is hard to
find now, but it and its author gave me what I needed to start
with: passion, contacts, guidance, encouragement. No one
knew the Wall and all its sub-branches better than Cheng,
who had documented his life’s work in an archive of 10,000
card-indexed pictures.

Forum electrical achive is better. We may share forum thread ID as image ID.
Just keep in mind. For later post of new image with a little bit more information is super.

When we have more images, Eg. 1000 or ever more. The Index system shows its power.
I am glad to help some database setup, If necessary.

I don't want to interrupt the book thread, that you may add new books the after.

So I ask here, which book you recomemend? Which is your favorite?

Which ones I recommend would depend on your interests (photos, history, tales, etc.).

Another foreigner loves and understands the Great Wall much much more than Chinese.

At the moment, I am looking for some story material ( Whatever story, history or tale, you like. ) for one chapter about the Great Wall of my book.
