Jinshanling to Simatai Advice

I have a very short time to spend in the Beijing area and want very much to be able to hike from Jinshanling to Simatai. I have been researching this trek and find I am scaring myself/husband out of the attempt, but suspect I am over reacting. Can someone please answer the following for me?

I am 56 years old and on the chunky side. I walk about 2 miles a day, but can easily walk 6 to 8 miles on slightly hilly ground. Except for being somewhat overweight, I am in reasonably good shape. I do tend to be clumsy - I broke my ankle in Jan. 2009.

My husband is 54 with back and neck problems, but other than that, he is fairly strong and sure footed.

Given our age and condition do you think it is reasonable to consider the Jinshanling to Simatai trek?

I know it takes an average of 4 to 5 hours to make the trek, and I personally have no problem going slow and taking 6 to 7 hours - I just want to be able to do it.

If someone could give me a realistic idea about what to expect I would truly appreciate it.
