Default Jinniudong - Shixiakou

The section of the wall between Jinniudong (40°13'51.65"N 119°51'34.68"E) and Shixiakou (40°13'15.26"N 119°49'47.95"E) must be one of the most interesting section I've visited so far. Not because of the splendour of the wall or scenery but because the way the wall was build or rather the place the wall was build. Normally the wall - at least the Ming wall - follow the ridges and can be found at the highest location but not at this place.

Earlier in the Ming days there would probably have been much more water in the river and that might explain why the wall is so close to the river - at some points almost directly on the dried up riverbed - which is now used for farming.

The wall seen from around here: 40°13'17.48"N 119°50'55.81"E

The wall around here: 40°13'16.83"N 119°50'55.13"E. Notice how low the wall is and very close to the farmland/river.

Normally the wall would be on the ridge to the right, but here it is located much lower at the bottom of the slope.

Watch tower located here: 40°13'14.23"N 119°50'41.67"E
Notice how the natural rock almost have the shape of a wall.

Typical Liaoning tower.

A few information about this section (and the Suizhong GW):

There are two sections of the Great Wall in the Suizhong county. One lies at the southwest boundary of Lijia, Yong’an and Jiabeiyan town, with the total length of 31 kilometers. It was built on the fourteenth year of Hongwu’s reign (1328 – 1398) in the Ming Dynasty, which belongs to the Jiliao Great Wall, the main trunk of the Ming Great Wall. Another one belongs to the Liaodong Great Wall, the branch of the Ming Great Wall. This section of the Great Wall was built on the fifth year of Wanli’s reign (1563 – 1620) in the Ming Dynasty. It starts from the southeast of Zhuizishan Hill to Jinniudong Cave, with the total length of 13 kilometers. The Great Wall was built with stone slabs, and bricks outside. It is 5 meters wide and 10 meters high. There are crenellations or battlements along the outer crest of the city wall and parapets on the top of the city wall. There is a rampart every 250 meters to 500 meters apart, and a sentry building every 500 meters to 1000 meters. Passes were also built at the entrances and valleys.

Thanks for sharing so detail pictures , and my comments for the aspect you mentioned for your reference:
Due to no wall was built from 40°13'13.00"N 119°50'20.23"E to 40°13'15.03"N 119°50'44.19"E, this section ought to be natual barrier , then stone wall being extended right close river and climbed to the ridge untill to Jiuniudong.

There seems to be a very short wall here (40°13'13.98"N 119°50'38.20"E) to close the entrance. I guess there would also be one here (40°13'12.78"N 119°50'28.78"E) but I didn't go that far.

I doubt there was any wall between here (40°13'19.38"N 119°51'4.01"E) and here (40°13'42.96"N 119°51'27.22"E). I followed the dried up river from Jinniudong to the other section to the west and looking up that is absolutely not at climb I would like to make. The mountain here is very steep and I consider it to be a natural barrier with no walls. At some point there might have been a tower here (40°13'29.93"N 119°51'20.32"E) but probably no wall.

The blue line in the attached photo represent the most likely path for the wall, based on knowledge from other locations and the typical way of considering the terrain when building the wall. The red line represent the actual location of the wall including natural defence lines.
