Some excellent photos. CCTV 9 International have just aired a programme about Jiayuguan. The reporter said the Wall was mainly compacted mud. Is that what you found? How far can you walk on this stretch?

Well, the whole Gansu-GW is made of rammed earth (mud). Only a few hundred meters are stone ...
How far can you walk? I walked the whole Gansu (Ming) GW from beginning to end ...

The more I view these photos the more places go on to my must see list! These pictures are great. I do have a stupid question, the wires running along the top of the battlements are for lights or electricity. Because, I was wondering if they illuminate the fortress walls at night.

They're lights.

I don't know when they get turned on. I went there late at night to take some photos, but they were off.
