Default Thunder hit hikers

Two chinese hikers were hit to death by thunder this afternoon , news from Chinese GW forum .

That is very sad news. Lightning can be very dangerous on mountain ridges. Do you have any more details, such as their exact location, were they using cell phones, etc.? Was it one incident or two separate incidents?

Sad news indeed. The weather was rather cloudy and a lil rainy today here in Beijing so perhaps it was not an ideal day to hike up to a place like Jiankou

One out of five hikers was fell down at 鹰飞倒仰 (Chinese : Yingfeidaoyang , English :upward flying eagle,coordinaties: 40.454328°N 116.500668°E around) on thunder weather ,then one of his companions was being make call for help ,four were hit suddenly at that time , two death and two injury .Your guess on tragedy caused by using cell phones might be right .

Yes, it seems a bit unclear. But the lesson to be learned is never to go up there when the forecast predicts thunder or turn back if you see a thunderstorm approaching!

Here is weather change example at Miyun district of Beijing (40.260784°N 117.331631°E around)on same day tragedy happened at Huairou district .
