I've never been to Huangyaguan, but you can bet I would like to give it a shot!
![]() The side wall looks new and I doubt that fence came from the Ming dynasty. ![]() Did you happen to get any GPS coordinates for this location?

When you arrive at Huangyaguan (40°14'37.33"N 117°26'20.32"E) you can choose to enter the Great Wall there or take a small bus (10 RMB) which takes you to Taipingzhai (40°14'47.29"N 117°27'19.52"E). From Taipingzhai you can walk back to Huangyuguan and continue west.
The Heaven Ladder of Huangya starts about here (40°14'33.56"N 117°25'47.66"E) but it's difficult to see how it continues on GE because it's in the shadow. Everything at Huangyuguan is repaired except the part leading to the Phoenix Tower (40°15'5.16"N 117°26'0.73"E). From the top of the tower it's possible to see part of the original Great Wall, but the climb up there seems a bit dangerous so I have no plan to do that. More details on my Great Wall Blog later
