I chose to stay at this place and enjoyed it a lot. It was not cheap, but it was nice. I will stay here again the next time I visit Gubeikou.

Maybe you should call them and ask them about their schedule, but I would think they will be open.

Did you ever give the farmhouses a chance? I am very much surprised that people rather stay in the hotels at Gubeikou than in these _very_ nice places with friendly people and a very genuine setting at a much nicer location.

I ask because of the properties of Gubeikou cun I encountered: very clean, very friendly, very quiet (no traffic noise at all), very informative (displays, museum, ...), the local food ("ye cai") was very good, the prices more thain fair (not to say ridiculous for the delivered), right below the Bei Qi wall, nice walks, friendly dogs and roosters. It was one of the peaceful and enlightning experiences I had in China. The service was very good, the room clean but simple and the people more than friendly. This is one of my highest recommendations for China travellers and I will bring my parents-in-law there as soon as possible. To my opinion _no_ hotel can compare.

Ah, true... but when you actually live in Beijing in a very 'local' residential area its sometimes nice to escape to a hotel with more freedom and privacy, lol. Though I do like the farmhouse idea I would possibly consider it an option during spring or summer holidays.

Sorry, I can't remember. I only remember being very tired and sleeping like a rock.

Well, you were lucky. I once lived in a farmer's house, but the room was so dusty, so was the bed. I even couldn't take a shower. So when you choose farmers' house, open your eyes widely and choose a clean one, like the one Chinoook found.

Those 'bean bag' ones are incredibly good for you. I think most are actually stuffed with a kind of tea... well the ones I use on my bed are, lol
