According to Google Earth the photo is take around here (40°13'24.55"N 119°32'47.96"E).
I should be possible to pass it next year but we will probably have to make some detours in this area

1000 photos in one day. That might be why 1.2 kilometers seemed so long.
In looking at Google Earth, I noticed the Wall seems to make a circle around Banchangyu so there would be two choices on which way to go. Your route looks slightly shorter.

That would be a shame. China already has enough restored Great Wall. I hope they leave this jewel alone!
