Maybe I will try to make a banner from this image:

The Great Wall of China

My main concerns are how to place text over the image so it looks good and also whether it's worth taking up so much vertical space.
Anyway, I will give it a shot.

I gave it a shot. Not too sure about it but I thought I would give it a try.

Is that your original photo?

Yes, except I cropped it, made it smaller, and balanced the color levels.

I think you balanced the colors a bit too much. It looks almost fake, but anyway the picture is probably too big to use as a banner. Maybe you should stick with the simple one.

Maybe so. Although they are balanced from exactly 0~255, it may be better not totally balanced. Here is the original photo. The sky is a bit more blue.

The Great Wall of China

Anyway, I have now switched to this banner, as I agree the image is too tall.

Thanks. I think I will put it under the best photos thread. I already have so many Jinshanling photos in that thread, but one more won't hurt, will it?

That's a good suggestion. Thank you. I will play around with it but it may prove to be too distracting.
