Unbelievable. I don't know if that's funny or sad. I often wonder how people can live in Beijing for their entire lives and never visit the Great Wall. Or only go to Badaling, which is just about the same as never going.
Probably a matter of priority. My wife have lived in Tangshan for 25 years but never visited the Great Wall before I took her there last year. A lot of people is still very poor so even though they probably would like to go earning money and providing food is still a first priority, so going the the Great Wall is not an option.
I will bring my parents-in-law to the Great Wall later this year - their first time.

Probably the same in many countries all over the world. At least in Denmark most people choose to travel outside the country even though we have a lot of interesting places to visit.

Yeah, I must admit that I have never seen a lot of the sights here in my hometown of Atlanta that many people come from far away to visit. Different strokes for different folks.

Interesting work.
I would be interested in how much the calculated length of the GW would change if you used at least some of the additional points of the GW we already know and are not contained on your "reconstruction maps".
