I am review the those data on google earth. Some points cann't find great wall. E.g. Dandong – 40°7'N, 124°23'"E

That is quite different with wiki-map. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_wall

If I have some more data, I am glad to help to review those data effiently on google earth or computer ananlisys.

Some of the places only indicate the area of which the Great Wall should be located. Hushan Great Wall close to Dandong is located here:
40°13'45.10"N 124°30'58.39"E
It's only a short repaired section.

I don't think you should trust too much on the Wikipedia Great Wall maps - some parts seems to be missing or misplaced.

kim,

Thanks for this help. I replot the data shows in this thread, totally 92 GPS points so far.

You may interested to have a look.
http://www.simwe.com/forum/attachment.php?aid=164528
http://www.simwe.com/forum/attachment.php?aid=164529

That results a possible path to go through, it's about 3950.06 km.
( Historical Great wall is about 10'000 china-mile, about 6000 km )
I am quite worry about the great wall is reducing its length.

I am review and verify your and forum GPS data on google earth.
Meanwhile, I try to find some new points.
I would keep you are informed for the result.

I hope can find some new points near the blue arrow. ( 2nd picture )
That would help to make east point to connect to the middle,
instead of line cross the ocean.( That is not correct. )

The chinese "10.000 mile long wall" (万里长城) is misleading.
It never has been of this length nor has ever been there a single wall. If you take all walls any chinese dynasty has built into account you will recieve a network of walls with a summed up length of something close to 30.000km.
The chinese 万 (10.000) is a synonym for "infinite" or "endless". The emperor was always wished a reign for 10.000 years ...

chinoook,

you are absolutly right for great wall historical define and meaning.
However, wiki reports it's about approximately 6,400 km (4,000 miles).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_wall

I try to verified that question with computer network calucation for the modern great wall ( or existing great wall ),
How long is the great wall now ? Only if I have enough GPS points, I can prove it.

I was wondering if you have the coordinates from the pictures or only the picture?

The arrow seem to be somewhere west of Shenyang, however it's a bit unclear exactly where the wall was in this area and different maps show different locations. My guess is that not much is left if any.

Is that possible for you to re-upload a new great wall data on a excel file ?
Your previous upload link appears not work. http://greatwall.se/upload/GreatWallofChina.xls
I decided to delete the file to avoid any problems with the authorities.
