will you have ropes and climbing gear etc ???
Furthermore, Sandaoguan has similar terrain.
No rope and no climbing equipment.

Several companies arrange hikes in this area so I'm it will not be necessary to bring this kind of gear.

I will be going to this area in the beginning of next year to have a closer look

I have no plans on trying to climb the steep parts of Sandaoguan - I've been there so I know the terrain very well.

I'm considering a round-trip hike in the Badaling – Shixiaguan – Bijiashan area in 2010, for example.
OK. I can understand. I still appreciate for the information of this thread.

After the Old Dragon Head, the Great Wall goes up to the mountains in Jiaoshan, which is now also a scenic spot. However, after walking to the top of Jiaoshan, it would be more difficult, but more beautiful sceneries there. Also the Dongjiakou Great Wall in the north of Qinhuangdao is really beautiful, especially in autumn. I have been to these places with tourists when I worked as a tour guide. In Shanhaiguan, Jiumenkou, and Dongjiakou areas, it is very easy to find a hotel or restaurant. In the countryside, there are local farmers who provide accommodations and food, what's more, it is not expensive.
