Hike East Hebei hike

Kim and I have agreed to reschedule this trek for September, 2010, one year later than originally planned. Therefore, the old thread has been closed and this new thread has been created.

A lot has changed since we first began planning this trip. Mainly, much more information is available to us. Kim deserves much credit for this. He has been making numerous trips to various locations along the Hebei Great Wall. As a result, as we are making our thru-hike, he will recognize many areas, while it will all be new to me.

In addition to site visits, Kim has been dong a lot of research which has yielded even more information, and other members such as andarchen have also contributed helpful details.

Additionally, a lot of high-resolution imagery has been added to Google Earth making planning even easier.

The result of all of these changes will be that we will be able to follow the Wall for the vast majority of our trek, we will be able to visit more interesting sites such as fortresses, and less time will need to be spent in reconnaissance.

Wow, this hike sounds great, surely would be very interesting. I would love to do a hike like this... but possibly my legs may just fall off at the end, hahahaha

Default Hike! 2010 East Hebei Trek

Hi. Sounds like a fantastic opportunity. Wouldn't be able to do 20 days though. Maybe only the first 7 due to work and meeting friends in Beijing. Any further updates on when? If this is acceptable to you then please consider me.

At this time we are still planning on September of 2010.

All systems are still go for a September 2010 launch. I'm fortunate to have two true Great Wall experts to accompany me: Kim and chinoook.

Preparations are underway. More details will follow soon.

I just learned many new sections of the GW by reading these threads. Then I searched photos of these sections and I found them magnificent! May I join in? If I have saved enough money by next year Sep I'll take off my job to join in this adventure if I'm permitted.

We have had several requests like yours, but unfortunately we can't accept any additional persons on this trek for various reasons, mostly logistical. But I and other people will be planning other hikes in the future and hopefully you can join one (or more) of those. I'm considering a round-trip hike in the Badaling – Shixiaguan – Bijiashan area in 2010, for example.

Once you reach the top of Jiaoshan from Laolongtou, to hike east is very dangerous as the GW drops more or less vertically down a ravine and then vertically up again. I saw this and !!!
will you have ropes and climbing gear etc ???
Furthermore, Sandaoguan has similar terrain.
