Did you read Bryan's Mutianyu Great Wall Review?
The best point to get off for Huairou should be Dongzhimen Long Distance Bus Station. But you will have to find it yourself, since the old one has vanished and non of us has used the new one. Maybe the best way to get there is to get off the subway at Dongzhimen and then to ask a taxi driver there. -chinoook

If you will go to Mutianyu GW by public transportation you could refer to this road map as follow
:1.Your's place to Dongzhimen Long Distance Bus Station: If you leave from Guloudajie, you could get Dongzhimen by subway line 2.Guloudajie-->Andingmen-->Yonghegong(Lama temple)-->Dongzhimen,total 4 stations.Get off and go to Dongzhimen Long Distance Bus Station, the bus station was very near subway station, there was a special walkway to bus station from subway station, pay attention to the road signs or ask staff of subway.Or by taxi to Dongzhimen bus station,I think it would be less than 18 RMB if you start on Guloudajie. ![]() 2.Dongzhimen bus station to Huairou bus station: I recommend you get there by 916(quick) bus.I don't know how to explain the (quick),chinese name was 916快(kuai), the 916 bus falls into more than several types. The 916(quick) run on highway,so less than 1 hour you will arrive at Huairou. The 916(quick) ticket price is 13 RMB,it would be 60% discount if you use IC card of bus. ![]() http://www.bjbus.com this is the Beijing bus information web site. 3.Huairou bus station to Mutianyu GW: You may ask a driver of Huairou local, hiring his car to take you to destination 30 minutes, the price one way maybe 20 or 30 RMB usually, you must bring down the price if he charge excessive price to you because it was not bus, those were all private cars. You did not afraid find a car while you get off 916.So many local will be around there, you could hire a car with other pepole together for saving the cost. ![]() Mutianyu GW Entrance price 40 RMB http://www.mutianyugreatwall.com/It is helpful to you to hope.Welcome to reply me if any question.

Easiest way is to hire a cab to take you there and wait for you before bringing you home, but this can be pricey depending on who you use. No offence to any of the drivers that advertise their services on here, but most are way too expensive and there are much cheaper drivers out there (the one I use is half the price of most on here, but he speaks no English). Other than that there are buses that run from Deshengmen bust station that will take you directly to Mutianyu Great Wall. Another option too is to contact the beijing hostels and see if they offer trips to the wall, most do but the choice of locations will differ

I'm heading up to Mutianyu for a morning trek along the eastern section. I'm flexible of exactly when and given the recent air quality in Beijing I'll go after a good "air-clensing" rain shower. If anyone is interested, please let me know.
