Default Luweishan - Liujiakou

Hi. I'm trying to put together a selection of hikes for when I visit next May and came across a hike from Luweishan to Liujiakou. The website (organised trek) states a distance of 4-5 kms. Has anyone done this stretch and have any advice on getting there, safety etc. I have also read on posts here that the stretch Sandaoguan - Jiaoshan, whilst do-able is dangerous in parts. This website just says its hilly and will take 5-6 hours. I would like to do this stretch as part of Sandaoguan right through to Laolongtao so wouldbe grateful for your honest opinions rather than that of travel websites. Cheers Darren

I'm not sure about the location of Luweishan, but I've been to Liujiakou two times. Most interesting about Liujiakou is the big watergate tower, that is still in very good condition. The rest of the wall here is mostly a pile of stones and not much of the brick wall is left so it can be difficult to hike here. I think a hike from Liujiakou and west towards Lengkou would be very nice - Heliukou between Liujiakou and Lengkou is very interesting and one of the most interesting location in the eastern Hebei area in my opinion.

This area is not very dangerous and not very steep - just take care not to fall when walking on the stones, some of them migh me loose.

Liujiakou is located in the "easy" part of Hebei. Further east is the most difficult part and also some very dangerous areas. The Sandaoguan-Jiaoshan stretch is located in the difficult/dangerous zone.

I plan to check part of the Jiaoshan-Sandaoguan section later this year and will of cause post a description on the forum.

To get to Luijiakou, you probably have to take a bus from Tangshan to Qing'an and then a local bus/taxi/private car to get to Liujiakou.

Cheers Kim. I will look out for your description later in the year. I suppose my next question is how long Liujiakou - Lengkou and availability of accommodation. I'm guessing that it would be highly impractical to do this stretch and return to say Tangshan for the night.

Liujiakou - Lengkou is about 10 km so it should be possible in one day - depending on how many pictures you take.

This is not a tourist area so it might be difficult to find a hotel here. Nearest bigger city is Qing'an where hotels should be available.

Except for the Shanhaiguan area you might find the same problems at most parts of Hebei. A few areas have been developed to a tourist spot with hotels - one of them Qingshanguan.

It seems Luweishan is east of Liujiakou, so it's between Liujiakou and Taolinkou.

Taolinkou is a scenic spot so there might be some hotels there, however I've never been there so I'm not sure. Another option would be to go to Taolinkou, take a car to Liujiakou and walk back to Taolinkou - however then you would have the sun in the face.

Hi Kim. Would Qing'an be the same place as Qian'an? I can't find Qing'an on any map but close to Tangshan is a place called Qian'an. The only Qing'an I can locate is in Heilongjiang. I know China is a big place with multiple cities sharing the same name
