Default Great wall with infant???

When we visit the great wall, I want to take my infant with us, of course, and was wondering which section would give us a good taste of the great wall but not be too difficult to carry our baby up or be overrun by touts?

Default Infant on the Great Wall

Mutianyu might be a good bet. It's close to Beijing, it has a cable car, and it's nicely restored.

At some points the Mutianyu is somewhat steep. I do not know how old your child is, but make sure you are not in a hurry.

And on wet days take care, because some parts may be slippery.

Try to get there early in the morning on a sunny day (like 08:00). You basically have the wall to yourself and the views are great.

As long as you just walk from one cabel car to the other (the main tourist area of Mutianyu) there is no problem bringing a infant. I've seen families with babies and small kinds there and it seemed to be no problem.

Default Where to go as a family

We are going (end of june) to visit the great wall (we are 2 adults three kids 15,14, 6). We are not going to do long hikes. But want a great experience without too much struggling if possible. I was keen on Simatai but now i am in doubt whereto go ???
I also wonder of it would be nicer to have a night in a hotel close to the wall instead of a beijing-return the same day - are there places to recommend ?

I think Mutianyu would be good for you too. There is no need to stay at a motel because it's pretty close to the city, but if you're interested, the Mutianyu Mountain Villa is located at 40°25'26"N 116°32'52"E.

You might also consider going to Jinshanling. There's lots of info in the Jinshanling forum including Great Wall and hotel details.

Both places are easily accessible via cable cars. Jinshanling is more interesting and less crowded, but further away.
