Wall 1 Jinshanling to Gubeikou

or the reverse...

I've done the Jinshanling to Simatai... is the Gubeikou route a good one?

It's hard to find many details on this trip. I found one trip report in Danish...

Rob

Thoughts?

It's a great route. There is a span of "military area" that you must bypass. We can supply the GPS route including the bypass if you are interested. I made this trek several years ago. This year, during the Olympics, I was prevented from going. I tried both directions. Guards there would not allow me to proceed no matter what I said. I assume it has been re-opened by now, but I cannot be certain.

Hike Jinshanling to Gubeikou

You can go from east to west (Jinshanling to Gubeikou) to keep the sun out of your face in the early morning. Overall it may be slightly downhill in that direction too. It would be easier to find transportation back to Beijing from Gubeikou than it would be from Jinshanling, too. But really, going in either direction would be satisfactory in my opinion.

The Jinshan Binguan is between the ticket office and the entrance gate, just past the restaurant, on the right side main road leading to Great Wall from the north side. 40°41'4.31"N 117°14'12.34"E.

At Gubeikou, there is the Wan Shou Xing Gong hotel at the entrance of the Wohushan Great Wall. It's a surprisingly nice hotel. From the main road you cross the bridge over the river into Hexi cun and it's on the right side where the road forks. 40°41'17.19"N 117° 9'7.35"E.

do you know the name of the Hotel there at Jinshanling?
We're going to start at that end.
My Driver's not convinced he knows how to get to Gubeikou, but he can get directions from Janshinling.
Cunning plans.

Default Jinshan Hotel / Jinshan Binguan

The Great Wall of China

To get to Gubeikou from Beijing, just take the JingCheng (Beijing to Chengde) expressway (101) all the way to Gubeikou. To get to Jinshanling, pass Gubeikou a couple of kilometers and turn right following the signs to Jinshanling.

Hike Hard to Book

Excellent, thanks.

The Jinshan Hotel seems to be elusive in obtaining a number for a booking. (At Jinshanling)

I wonder if it is wise just to front up there,.....

in another thread you've quoted 84025159 as a contact number. It seems to ring out. They are sleeping perhaps..

Thanks again for the pointers...

Try 8402-4628.

They have plenty of rooms and I'd say the chance of your arriving and not getting a room is very slim.
