Li Shaobai is an outstanding and well-known Great Wall photographer, and the images in this book are excellent.

Default The Eternal Great Wall

The Great Wall of China
The Eternal Great Wall
by Dong Yaohui

Dong Yaohui and two companions set off from Shanhaiguan in 1984 and over 508 days exploring the wall and its many branches, eventually reaching Jiayuguan in 1985. He is currently the president of the China Great Wall Society.

This book features superb images from many photographers and very informative and of course accurate text.

The Great Wall of China

This book is not only on the Great Wall but main parts are about it. The book was formerly published in Chinese. Some of the photographs seem to be from the 1970 years and not all fulfill today quality demands but this book stays what it is: The most scientific approach to the ancient chinese defense structures. Unfortunately there is no bibliography added.

Be aware of the high price and take care, you don't order the whole series!

This one is an excellent book and contains many beautiful images. There was a small photo exhibition by this author last year in Guozi Jian / Confucius Temple here in Beijing last year. It was very interesting.

I agree, it's an excellent book. There is a permanent display of the Gubeikou rephotography from the book at the Wohushan Great Wall — see here.

Book China's Great Wall: A Photographic History

The Great Wall of China
China's Great Wall: A Photographic History
as Seen through the Lens of Zhai Dongfeng
by Peng Ruigao

Hardcover
224 pages
Publisher: Readers Digest (2009)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0762109858
ISBN-13: 978-0762109852

This book has beautiful photographs including many obscure locations and unusual compositions. It also has enough interesting historical information to make it much more than just another Great Wall photo book.

Any thoughts about this book?

I saw it today at a Beijing book store, but at 618 RMB it seemed very overpriced to me. I would expect better quality for that price.

It's a nice photo book but you wouldn't learn much from it. That price is way too high. Here in the USA, it's about $33.

Photos by Chen Changfen
Text by Anne Wilkes Tucker
Foreword by Jonathan D. Spence
