A very nice little book with superb pictures. Unfortunately it's only in Chinese but the pictures alone is well worth it and the price is astonishing. The book also feature some small maps of selected areas, telephone numbers, opening hours and ticket prices.
It seems like an obvious choice for translating into English and publishing worldwide.

That is a very interesting book which I have never seen or heard of before!

I found that book yesterday in a Lanzhou book store. It seems like a very excellent book with a lot of nice pictures, just too bad the text is in Chinese.

Do you know if this 1995 edition delves more into GW related issues than the 1978 3 volume edition? Somehow I never associated Needham's exhaustive (and defensive!) project with anything bearing on the GW.

Another note: it would be great to have a few lines of annotations about these works, just to make informed choices in digging out some of them, or ordering them from Beijing.

I do not think the new edition contains any more material than the early one, but it does contain some information on the Great Wall. You can look at the Preview to see what's contained in the new edition.

I agree about the annotations. Others that have posted books have been better about that than I. Over time I will go back and add notes or short reviews to my book posts.
