Thumbs up Baiyangyu photos

Today I went back to Baiyangyu and I just had to climb that top mountain.
Here is a view of the top watch tower seen from another tower on the top. More info on my blog next week.

Yes, Baiyangyu is still my favourite place

Default Baiyangyu photos

Yes, that was bit difficult and I surely wouldn't recommend it for beginners or people with less experience. The mountain itself is pretty steep as can be seen from this picture taken from the road on the way home:

The Great Wall of China

However what makes it very difficult is the way the wall was constructed in this area using the natural occurring rocks - hence the name "Marble Great Wall".

It's very difficult to walk on these rocks especially on the way back down. However the view was great, and the "Marble Great Wall" continues on the next mountain - I really need to go there one day!

Behind the first watch tower there was another smaller watch tower, not like any of the other towers in this area.

This is a "Stable" at: 40°11'46.97"N 118°43'34.96"E

The Great Wall of China

Hebei - The Great Wall Legacy describe it as (p. 68):

...it served to mislead enemies into considering it to be the command post and thus concentrate a superior force to attack it; on the other hand it provided storage space for food, forage and horses.

Absolutely gorgeous photos. The wall looks great in this part, is it a tough one to climb? Me and my camera would love to see this one sometime in the future

The brick wall is not very difficult to climb - at least not more difficult than a lot of other places. When you get to the so called "Marble Great Wall" the wall changes from brick to stone and you more or less walk on a big pile of stones which is much more difficult and dangerous. It seems to be in better condition if you continue a bit further, but I've never been that far - yet.

My offer to show you the wall somewhere in Tangshan still stand!

I takes two hours to get from Beijing to Tangshan. From Tangshan to Baiyangyu or another GW section is almost another two hours.

It might be possible in the end of June or beginning of July. I go home on vacation in the end of July and in August it's just too hot to enjoy. You should try to find out when you can arrive in Tangshan and when you need to go back to Beijing from Tangshan.
