This book is not only on the Great Wall but main parts are about it. The book was formerly published in Chinese. Some of the photographs seem to be from the 1970 years and not all fulfill today quality demands but this book stays what it is: The most scientific approach to the ancient chinese defense structures. Unfortunately there is no bibliography added.

Be aware of the high price and take care, you don't order the whole series!

The book has a lot excellent photos of the Great Wall in Qinhuangdao (Hebei), but not so much text however the great photos are worth it. The book only have a few text pages de describing the different areas in Qinhuangdao and mainly focus on the pictures.

I saw it today at a Beijing book store, but at 618 RMB it seemed very overpriced to me. I would expect better quality for that price.

It's a nice photo book but you wouldn't learn much from it. That price is way too high. Here in the USA, it's about $33.

I noticed that you mentioned William Lindesay's new book, The Great Wall Revisited. Do you have this book? I did not know that it was available yet; I thought that it was coming out in a few months. Maybe it's available in China but not in the USA.

I got the book in Beijing last month. It looks very interesting but I have not had time to read it yet. According to his website it is only available in China. A bit strange since the book seems to be a must have for any Great Wall enthusiast.

The edition is only for sale and distribution in China - I wonder if the book will have some additions when sold outside China (like GPS coordinates).

The cover seems to be different on the abroad version.

The Great Wall Revisited

The ISBN for the US release is 0674031490 or 978-0674031494. The publisher is Harvard University Press. Publication date is 15 September, 2008. It's also 292 pages, so I suspect the content is identical.

The retail price is $39.95. The Amazon.com price is currently $26.37.

This one is an excellent book and contains many beautiful images. There was a small photo exhibition by this author last year in Guozi Jian / Confucius Temple here in Beijing last year. It was very interesting.
